Army patches during the Vietnam War were numerous and varied to represent the different parts and actions throughout the war. Here are some of the most iconic: We also have Vintage Army Patches Classic Military Insignias
1st Infantry Division (Big Red One): Parked on this division’s patch was a red numeral “1” within a white circle on the blue backdrop.
25th Infantry Division (Tropic Lightning): This division had as its emblem a lightning against a red background.
101st Airborne Division (Airmobile): The badge was a white Screaming Eagle on a red oval background or a Screaming Eagle in pale write screeming over a blood red disc.
173rd Airborne Brigade (Sky Soldiers): Its patch was a winged skull.
Regiments and battalions of smaller forces also had their badges. These often contained references to the unit’s name, emblem or motto.
Although campaign ribbons are not strictly speaking patches, they were worn by soldiers who took part in particular campaigns. These were most often worn on the uniform and could comprise of unit crest.
Other Notable Patches:
MACV-SOG: Military Assistance Command, Vietnam – Studies and Observations Group’s symbolic device was the tiger head patch.
Air Cavalry: This patch included a helicopter and wings because many of these units were airmobile.
1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile): This division entitled its patch with a horse head and a Cavalry Saber.
